Swan Lake State Park, Swanville . Small recently opened park on
lake includes swimming beach, toilets. Scant parking. Off Frankfort
Road off Route 141.

Warren Island State Park, Isleboro . A saltwater island park with
boat access only. In Penobscot Bay. Heavily forested with spruce. Hiking,
picnicking, fishing are allowed. Overnight camping is permitted. Dock
and moorings available for day users. Best access is from Lincolnville, or
take the ferry to Isleboro and kayak from there.

Beaches at a Glance
As a rule, the farther north and east a visitor goes in Maine, the
fewer the fine sand beaches.
Pemaquid Beach, Bristol . Small, crescent-shaped, sand
beach 1,500 feet long. Dunes. Snowball Hill Road.
Thomas Point, Brunswick . Back bay swimming area has privately
run beach about 1,000 feet long on Meadow Road. Picnic and play areas.
Facilities, fee for parking.
Half-Mile Beach, Georgetown . Open sand barrier spit with salt
marsh on Seguinland Road. Fine sand beach nearly 2,000 feet long.
Mile Beach, Georgetown . Dunes and marsh back up this coarse sand
beach just shy of a mile long. Rocky areas. Located on Seguinland Road.
Lincolnville Beach, Lincolnville . Half-mile long sand and gravel
beach near Ducktrap on Route 1. Scant parking. No facilities.
Crescent Beach, Owls Head . Favorite beach near Rockland on Cres-
cent Point Road. 3,000 feet long. Facilities nearby. Parking not great.
Head Beach, Phippsburg . Crescent-shaped, fine sand beach 1,000 feet
long. Parking with fee at nearby campground. On Small Point Road.
Birch Point, Owls Head . Small pocket beach between rocky head-
lands. Scant parking. Accessed via a dirt track off Ballyhac Road.
Sandy Point, Stockton Springs . Gravel and sand beach and nature
area off US 1. About a mile long. No facilities, limited parking.
Wildlife Refuges
Todd Wildlife Sanctuary, Bremen . Sanctuary is operated on
Hogg and Bremen Long Islands in Muscongus Bay by the Audu-
bon Society as part of their continuing education programs. Boat
access only.
