: This easy one-mile nature walk stays
level and is accessible to wheelchairs. It winds through woods and over
salt and fresh-water marsh areas and along the Merriland River and
later Branch Brook (some boardwalk sections). Fixed observation sta-
tions and wooden bridges. At one point the open ocean is visible in the
distance. Boulder with plaque notes dedication of preserve to Rachel Car-
son, US Fish and Wildlife Service Biologist and author of the seminal en-
vironmental work
