Hiking & Walking
Bradbury Mountain, Pownal : Numerous trails ascend this
485-foot summit from parking areas in the state park at the
base. The shortest, steepest route is only .2 miles long. Some
trails are open to mountain biking and cross-country skiing.
Good views. Old stone cattle pound and other sites along the trails. Easy

Douglas Mountain, Sebago : For a short hike this trip offers great pan-
oramic views of the surrounding landscape, including Sebago Lake to the
east and the White Mountains to the west. The trailhead, which is lo-
cated in a Nature Conservancy preserve, is on an unmarked dirt road off
the Douglas Hill Road (check a map). While the summit is at 1,416 feet, it
is only a half-mile and 300 feet or so of elevation gain to the top from the
parking area. A boulder on top bears a Latin inscription meaning “Not for

near the recycling center off the Pownal Road. A sign board at the
trailhead contains a map of the trails to the top of the 308-foot hill. Good
views in all directions. Walks of half an hour to nearly two hours possible.
Easy to moderate.
Marginal Way, Ogunquit : One of the most popular village/shore walks
in Maine, this mile-long stroll is especially scenic when the swells coming
in off the Atlantic are made angry by offshore storms.
INTERESTING FACT: Ogunquit is a Native Ameri-
can word meaning “pretty place by the sea.” Take this
walk and you'll see why it is so named.
Begin at small parking area across from Barnacle Billy's Restaurant on
Cove Road and head north along cliffs. Good access to the shore at several
