Mast Landing Sanctuary , Freeport. This 150-acre preserve is the Au-
dubon Society's summer day camp. Self-guided nature walk through the
woods and along streams. Good place to see beavers. Free parking, pic-

Scarborough Marsh , Scarborough. Maine's largest salt marsh (3,000-
acres) features guided canoe trips (rentals available) as well as birding
walks. There is a mini-museum and visitors center with exhibits and
slide show. Operated by the Maine Audubon Society.

plenty of bug repellent to deter them.
Douglas Mountain Preserve , Sebago. This 169-acre preserve protects
a hill with remarkable views of the surrounding lands. On a clear day
view reaches from the Atlantic Ocean to the White Mountains. Interpre-
tive display on top of old stone tower on 1416-foot summit. Parking area
on Douglas Mountain Road (limited), trails, picnic area.

Waterboro Barrens , Waterboro. Unique scrub oak and pitch pine forest
located on sandy glacial outwash deposit. 2,300 acres with wide, easy to
follow, gentle terrain trails. Parking lot. Self-guided nature walk. Owned
