Especially for new riders, avoid the super fast muscle sleds in favor of
more comfortable, easy-riding, touring models. The power may seem
attractive, but is the last thing someone with little experience really
needs while out riding on crowded trails.
Most rental places include helmets in the price and will also provide
snowmobile suits and other warm clothes either as part of the rental or
for a nominal fee. Check with your rental agent to find out what type of
insurance coverage and other services they provide.

Two of the best places to rent sleds
are the
Kokadjo Trading Post
north of Greenville
and almost anyplace in the
Patten area
. These are
located in some pretty remote country, but the trails
are good, access to scenic vistas unsurpassed, and the
trails will not be as crowded as you might find around
other snowmobiling Meccas such as Greenville and
Millinocket.
Especially on fair weather weekends rental sleds go fast. Call ahead and
make sure you have a reservation before heading north.
