In-Depth Information
3. A view of one slump block shows
remnants of a former road and a palm
tree still growing as if nothing has
happened.
4. Homes dangerously close to an oversteepened,
eroding coastal bluff. Two white drainage pipes that
helped drain water out of the ground are dangling
from the top of the cliff. It is just a matter of time
before these homes are destroyed by the effects of
erosion or slumping of the unstable bluff.
5. Creep and minor slumping are evident in this photo.
Note the two small slump scarps. The smaller one in the
background is mostly grass-covered, whereas the one in
the foreground has bare spots and is apparently moving at
a slightly faster rate. Notice the effect of creep on the
right-hand wall of the house. The bottom par t of the wall is
moving toward the right of the photo as a result of creep,
producing a bend in the wall that can be seen clearly near
its base.
6. Slumping along the oversteep-
ened cliffs at Point Fermin. The
abandoned house in Figure 4 is
just to the right of this view at the
top of the cliff.
