Using Clipping Layer Masks
A clipping mask applies masking to multiple layers. To do this you need to designate the
layers that together you want to mask. Then apply a clipping layer mask. Using the tools
and techniques for creating the mask area, set your mask area, and all layers included in the
clipping layer mask are masked and their layer images and contents display in the defined
mask area. All layers in a clipping mask must be successive in their order to each other.
1. Open a photo that has multiple layers.
2. Click the Expert mode.
3. Establish the base layer by positioning your mouse on the horizontal line under-
neath the layer that you want to be the bottom or base layer.
4. Then hold down the Options (Mac)/Alt (PC) keys on the keyboard. Your cursor be-
comes a bent arrow with a square to the right. With this new cursor, click to desig-
nate that layer as a clipping mask layer.
