Adding Titles and Text
You can also add titles, labels, and text to your photos. This allows you to explain a photo
or personalize it with a message. The Photo Editor has many fonts and font sizes, as well
as other text formatting options. Text is created on its own layer so that the photo image is
not changed. This is called non-destructive editing. The Type tool automatically creates a
layer called a text layer when you add text to your photo. You learn more about layers in
Chapter 7 .
Both the Quick and Expert modes have a Type tool in the Toolbox. This Type tool has
seven Type Tools options you can use for your text. Each Type Tool option has its own op-
tions and settings. Following is an overview of each Type Tool option:
Type - Horizontal/Vertical —Create text that displays horizontally or vertically in
your photo.
Type - Horizontal Mask/Vertical Mask —Use horizontal or vertical text to create
a mask so that the background image is the fill of the text.
Text on Selection/Text on Shape/Text on Path —Select an area in your photo or
create a shape or path and then add text so that it flows around the selection area,
shape, or path.
Adding Text on a Photo
The technique to add text to a photo is basically the same no matter which Type tool you
select.
1. Open a photo either from Organizer or from your hard disk in the Photo Editor or a
new document by choosing File, New from the menu bar.
