Viewing photos in the Viewer
The Elements Organizer is a powerful catalog management program for your digital media.
Organizer automatically creates a Catalog file when it is first installed. This is the default
Catalog and anytime you import media, it is stored in the Catalog file. You can set up more
than one Catalog for your photos, such as one for your vacation photos and one for your
home photos. You can also set up albums to further organize your media in each Catalog.
Use the Folders view to see where your photos and video came from on your computer.
Managing Catalogs
When you install Photoshop Elements 13, it creates a Catalog file for storing your photos,
audio, or video. A Catalog is like a database in that it stores information about your digital
media. When you import media into Elements Organizer, it creates a link to media on your
computer and external disk drives and devices in the Catalog that records the name of the
digital media and the file path.
Organizer also records other basic file information in the Catalog, such as orientation of the
photo, as well as any metadata like captions, notes, keyword tags, and keyword categories.
When you make quick fixes or edits to your photos, the Catalog records this too. It is a very
important file for the management functionality of Organizer. You can locate where your
Catalog is on your computer through the Help menu in Elements Organizer.
1. Choose Help, System Info from the menu bar.
