Here you can hang out with the online Unity developer community. If you'd like to get together in
person, choose the User Groups tab to find a local group. You will find that many of these groups
are listed on Meetup , a web site that serves as a central repository for finding local groups for
people with shared interests of any kind.
If you don't see a group in your area in the Unity User Groups listing, try searching www.meetup.com
directly. You can find newer, smaller local Unity groups here; if there are none, you can list Unity
game development as an area of interest so you can be notified when a group in your area is
established. You might even consider starting one yourself. Local group events vary and can be
purely social get-togethers, technical presentations, feedback sessions on group members' projects,
hands-on tutorial sessions, or anything the members are interested in.
The GDC (Game Developers Conference) is THE annual event in the game development industry,
where tens of thousands of game development industry members gather. Lectures and tutorials,
contests and awards, workshops, networking functions, parties, and more occur over the days of
this huge gathering. All the particulars can be found at www.gdconf.com .
Unity has its own annual conference, called Unite . Unite is held in a different city in North America
each year, with additional regional venues around the world (Figure 13-15 ). You will find all things
Unity here: technical, artistic, as well as business. There are hands-on training workshops, talks from
industry veterans, and sneak peeks of new features and products. You don't have to attain a certain
