Summary
Images can often benefit from a light application of the Unsharp Mask filter; however, it can accentuate
film grain, digital noise, and, when overused, create unwanted artifacts around edges. For a gentler type of
sharpening, the High Pass method enhances the edges of the image without overaccentuating film grain or
digital noise. Images that are slightly soft or out of focus can be improved by using the Emboss technique.
The relief effect helps recover lost texture and detail.
