The Remote app lists available Apple TVs and iTunes libraries so you can remote-control
them.
Now you can use the Remote app as a remote. Tap the Control button ( ) at the bottom of the
Remote screen on an iPhone or iPod Touch; it's at the upper right of the screen on an iPad. You now
have several controls:
• Drag your finger up, down, left, or right in the navigation area that appears in the middle of
the screen (see Figure 4-6) to move between sections on the Apple TV screen. Dragging to
the left, for example, performs the same action as clicking the left button on the physical re-
mote.
• While a video or song is playing, slide a finger to the left or right to fast-forward or rewind,
respectively. The farther you drag your finger, the faster the media will skip.
• Tap a finger to select an item; doing so performs the same action as clicking the Select but-
ton on the physical remote.
• Tap Menu to go back to the previous item or option.
• Tap Play/Pause ( ) to toggle between playing and pausing the current audio or video.
• Tap the Contextual Menu button ( ) to pull up extra features for the current item, if avail-
able. (The physical remote has no equivalent to this button). For example, when playing a
menu, tapping this button brings up a list of chapters so you can jump to the one you want.
When listing podcasts, pressing the button displays the Mark as Played option on the TV
screen, which you can then “click” by tapping the Remote app's screen.
