In-Depth Information
1. Connect an audio cable between the audio source and the iRig or AmpKit Link. You'll need
an adapter to connect the mini cable to the iRig's or AmpKit Link's 1⁄4-inch jack.
2. Connect the iRig or AmpKit Link to your iOS device's audio jack.
3. Begin playing audio from your source device.
4. Launch an audio-in app on your iOS device, such as StudioMini. Make sure the app is set to
receive input from the headphone jack.
5. Make sure your AirPlay device (Apple TV or speaker) is switched on.
6. Double-press your iOS device's Home button to open the multitasking dock, then scroll to
the left until you see the AirPlay button (
).
7. Tap the AirPlay button ( ) and choose your desired AirPlay device from the pop-over
that appears — you can't send the audio to multiple speakers.
If all went according to plan, your audio should now be playing through the AirPlay device.
Control Airfoil streaming on an iOS device with Reemote
Although I'm sure you appreciate the benefits of combining Airfoil and Airfoil Speakers with your
AirPlay network by now, it does have one drawback: the lack of a way to control the software when
you're away from your main computer.
Fortunately, a beautiful third-party app is available for your iOS devices that will help you do just
that. It's called Reemote for Airfoil (see Figure 3-12).
