Airfoil Speakers receiving audio on an iPad from Airfoil on a Mac
Being able to turn an existing device into an AirPlay receiver enhances your options for audio
streaming and extends your network of wireless receivers by attaching your computers or mobile
devices to speakers or using their built-in speakers.
The app also offers clever tricks like sharing metadata, so if you're using a compatible app like
Spotify, for example, the track name and album artwork appear on your device, too. Another brilliant
feature is the ability for Airfoil Speakers to run in the background on your device, so you can use oth-
er apps while receiving audio from Airfoil. Thus, on an iOS device, you can use Airfoil to stream audio
from iTunes on your computer to Airfoil Speakers on your device while still using the Remote app to
control playback remotely.
Using Airfoil Speakers is easy:
1. Run the Airfoil Speakers app on the device or computer you want to have act as an AirPlay
speaker.
2. On your computer, run Airfoil and select the desired device or computer from the list of
available receivers, as Figure 3-11 shows.
3. Also on your computer, choose the app you want to stream from or choose the Computer
option to send system audio from your computer to the device running Airfoil Speakers.
