Test your AirPlay network by using the multitasking dock's iOS AirPlay button (
) to
select a speaker, then play music or other audio.
To perform the same test on a Mac or PC, launch iTunes and begin playing some music from
your iTunes library. Now click the AirPlay button ( ) at the upper left right of the window, next
to the playback controls (as you can see later in Figure 3-6), to show all your available AirPlay
devices. If you have a Mac that supports AirPlay mirroring, click the AirPlay icon (
) in the menu
bar to get a list of available Apple TVs.
Stream Music and Other Audio
Now that your speakers, Apple TVs, or AirPort Express base stations are set up and ready to re-
ceive tunes, it's time to figure out the best way to use them. This will, naturally, depend on the
devices you want to use, be it an iOS device, a Mac, or a PC, and whether you're streaming to an
AirPlay speaker, Apple TV, or an AirPort Express connected to a speaker or hi-fi system. Whatever
scenario you go for, it's not too difficult to get your music streaming the way you want it.
Before you begin, make sure that the speakers you want to stream to are switched on and ready
to receive audio. Likewise, make sure your Apple TV is on and the TV or speakers connected to it are
also switched on. If you are streaming to an AirPort Express base station, make sure it is plugged in,
