Make the most of iTunes Match
If you want the move to iTunes Match to be as clean and efficient as possible, there are several
steps to take to get yourself prepared.
Get your house in order
Organizing your iTunes library will make for a simpler route to iTunes Match perfection. By
adding the correct information to music in your library, iTunes Match will be able to match them to
songs in the iTunes Store more quickly, with the added bonus that you will be able to figure out
which songs have been matched and which haven't without having to guess at a track name or album.
iTunes Match also looks at the length of a track to determine whether it's a match for an equivalent
song in the iTunes Store, so a difference of a few seconds here or there could mean a better-quality
version of a song isn't available through iTunes Match.
Although you could go through each song in your library and make changes manually, it's best to
enlist the help of specialist software, especially if you have a very large music collection. On a Mac,
Equinux's Song Genie is a good option for an overall tidy, adding missing information to songs
names and tags. It also works alongside its sister app CoverScout to apply missing album artwork.
Another option is TuneUp, by TuneUp Media (see Figure 2-11), which offers many of the same fea-
tures as Song Genie plus the option to remove duplicate tracks that, again, slow down the matching
