Fitness Gear
The extra pounds you put on over the holidays don't escape the attention of your iOS devices, es-
pecially with so many fitness products available for computer and mobile platforms.
The flagship offering is, of course, the Nike + Sport Kit system that connects to your iOS devices
and allows you to monitor your jogging and helps motivate you with a “power song” to help you push
through the pain barrier. Modern iOS devices and larger iPods are ready to go with Nike+, but older
devices need to use the Nike+ sensor attached to a shoe to chart your exercise. As you run, you get
voice feedback on how you're doing, how far you've run, and, when you're finished, a full report to let
you know if you're as fit as a fiddle or a flabby failure. You can sync the data to your
www.nikeplus.com account to chart your progress and determine whether you're getting fitter or
need to work out harder. You can even interact with and challenge other runners from around the
world.
The $190 Nike + FuelBand does much the same job as the Nike + Sport Kit with a newer iPod or
iPhone, but it also tracks your runs and your movements throughout the day. The wristband offers a
clean LED display, doesn't look too ridiculous to wear on a day-to-day basis, and syncs wirelessly
with your iOS device to provide detailed results. Throughout the day, lights on the band change from
red to green, with the latter indicating that you've hit your fitness goal. At the end of the day, you can
