Using Microsoft PowerPoint via CloudOn
To run Windows effectively, you need a connection of at least 1Mbps, which is what you get over
a basic DSL connection and a Wi-Fi network. This means access over a cellular network will be pain-
fully slow. To run games, you'll need a faster connection to keep up with the complex graphics as they
change.
Keep in mind that apps such as Google Quickoffice and Apple iWork work with Office files very
nicely, and cloud storage services such as Dropbox and Box are all that most people need to work
with Office documents. But CloudOn is very handy when you need a more sophisticated feature avail-
able only in Microsoft Office or a technology like ActiveX or Flash available only in Windows.
Control cameras with an iOS device
Your iOS devices are also capable of controlling creative tools like cameras and camcorders with
clever apps that give you full remote control when you can't shoot and control a shot at the same
time.
The $300 GoPro HD Hero3 video camera, for example, has built-in Wi-Fi that allows you to con-
nect to it from your iOS device and take photos or shoot videos remotely. You can see a live video pre-
view from the camera on your iOS device and play back clips you recorded.
Similarly, DSLR camera users will benefit from a free app called Triggertrap (see Figure 9-7) that
