Accessing files from another Mac via Back to My Mac in the Finder
Share files between Macs with AirDrop
AirDrop offers a convenient way to share files between two Macs running OS X Lion or later on
the same Wi-Fi network. Unfortunately, only recent Mac models support AirDrop (typically, those
built in 2010 or later). If you switch to the Finder and then open the Go menu, you will see the
AirDrop menu option if your Mac supports AirDrop; if your Mac doesn't support AirDrop, the option
does not appear.
AirDrop should also appear in a Finder window's Sidebar; if not, go to the Sidebar pane in the
Finder Preferences dialog box, as explained earlier in this chapter, and check the AirDrop option.
Click AirDrop in a Finder window's Sidebar or choose Go > AirDrop in the Finder to scan for oth-
er AirDrop-compatible Macs on the network.
When it is active, it will scan for Macs using AirDrop nearby that have file sharing enabled in the
Sharing system preference. Any such Macs will appear in the Finder window. You can then drag files
onto those Macs' icons, and their users will get a prompt asking whether to accept the file you are
transferring, as Figure 8-13 shows.
