In-Depth Information
The hard-core approach to cleaning up your bookmarks is to disable iCloud syncing on all your
devices, then delete all their bookmarks — except for the computer or device that has your master
bookmark list. Once that master is cleaned up, turn on bookmark syncing on all your devices so the
cleaned-up bookmarks sync to the other devices.
Add bookmarks individually
To add bookmarks as you come across pages you want to save the links to, just tap or click the
Share button ( ) in Safari. When you add a bookmark, you get the option to store it in a book-
marks folder, in the bookmarks bar (at the top of the screen in Safari on a computer or iPad), or in
your general bookmarks.
Edit the bookmarks bar
The Safari bookmarks bar on a computer or iPad is the easiest route to accessing your commonly
used bookmarks because they are always available. To display the bookmarks bar in Safari on a com-
puter, choose View > Show Bookmarks. On an iPad, go to the Settings app's Safari pane and set the
Always Show Bookmarks Bar switch to On. The bookmarks bar displays a list of bookmarks or book-
mark folders above the page you are viewing, below the URL bar.
TIP: On an iPhone or iPod Touch, the bookmarks bar is simply a folder in the Bookmarks
screen, so it doesn't have that always-visible convenience as on the iPad or a computer. But it does
sync with those devices, so you can use it to add bookmarks that will sync to the bookmarks bar on
the iPad and computer.
As you would expect from Apple, the bookmarks bar is also synced between devices when using
iCloud syncing so you have access to the same bookmarks on all your devices.
Add bookmarks to your iOS device's Home screen
For your most important bookmarks, web apps, or websites, you can add a bookmark to your iOS
device's Home screen that looks like an app icon, so you can tap it to open that web page as if it were
an app.
iOS grabs the web page's icon (if its developers gave it one) or takes a snapshot of the current
screen (if not) for use as that app icon. That app icon can be put in folders, deleted, and moved just
like any app icon.
The process to create a bookmark icon on the Home screen is simple:
1. Launch the Safari browser.
2. In the Safari URL bar, enter the URL of the web page you want to visit.
3. When the page has loaded, tap the Share button (
).
4. Tap the Add to Home Screen button.
5. Enter a name for the bookmark's icon using the onscreen keyboard.
6. Tap the Add button. The icon is added to your device's Home screen.
Sync bookmarks from different browsers to iCloud
I won't tell anyone if you admit that you use another browser in addition to Safari. The truth is,
many people use browsers such as Firefox or Chrome based on their personal preference. But when
