The options depend on the type of stereo system in your car. For just audio playback through
your car's speakers, there are cassette adapters (if you still have a cassette player) that connect to
your iPhone via a cable. There are also many devices that connect to your iPhone or iPad via
Bluetooth and then to your car stereo through an FM radio transmitter. A particularly good one is the
$60 GoGroove FlexSmart X2 , which has an adjustable microphone that also lets you make calls and
issue voice commands to Siri.
Many newer car stereos have Bluetooth and a microphone built in, so they can connect to your
iPhone or iPad for audio playback and act as a hands-free mic and speaker for your iPhone. Some ste-
reos also have USB ports that let you connect your iOS device via a cable for audio playback (but not
make calls). Some new cars have navigation systems that connect to your iOS device for audio play-
back, voice control, and phone calls, plus read your e-mails and text messages.
In all these options, how you send your audio is the same: Use the AirPlay controls to select the
device as the audio output.
Keep devices charged
Making sure your devices remain charged during a trip is essential if you want to access apps,
make calls, use Siri, and have Internet access.
