Set iCloud mail rules
You probably use mail rules on your computer, such as to move messages from specific people or
with specific subject text into folders — and of course to handle spam. You can't do that on an iOS
device, and any rules you set on your computer apply only when the computer checks e-mail. The
more mobile you are, the less your computer may be on to process those rules on your iCloud e-mail.
But you can set up these rules at the iCloud.com site, so they are applied to your e-mail before it
reaches your devices or computers.
After signing into your account at the iCloud.com website:
1. Click the Mail button.
2. Click the Settings button (
) and choose Preferences from the pop-up menu that ap-
pears.
3. Click the Rules button to go to the Rules pane.
4. Click the Add a Rule button.
5. Select an option from the If a Message pop-up menu (such as Is From or Has Subject Con-
taining) and enter an e-mail address or specific text in the field below.
6. To determine what happens to e-mail matching the criteria you just set, select an option
from the second pop-up menu.
7. If you chose Move to Folder or Forward To, select a folder or enter an e-mail address. If you
chose Move to Trash you don't need to set any more options.
8. Click the Done button.
Stay Connected While Traveling
When traveling or going on vacation, you can keep on the right route by using the GPS features of
the iPhone via the included Maps app (see Figure 6-13), via a third-party navigation app, or, for a
slightly less high-tech feel, by using the Compass app. You can also control your iPhone in your car
using voice recognition.
Another consideration when traveling is to make sure your devices are powered up for the dura-
tion of your time away. This can become trickier if you are in a foreign country with different power
sockets.
Then there are the questions of how to listen to your music through speakers when you're away
from your AirPlay network and how to establish a connection to the Internet to access all your cloud-
based content and your iCloud-enabled apps.
