Set up Find My iPhone
Although the service is called Find My iPhone, it can be used to find any of your iOS devices, in-
cluding iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches, as well as Macs. Location Services needs to be on in each
device, as does the Find My iPhone/iPad/iPod/Mac.
On an iOS device:
1. Launch the Settings app and tap the iCloud label to open the iCloud pane.
2. Set the Find My iPhone switch to On. (It will be called Find My iPad on an iPad and Find
My iPod on an iPod Touch.)
On a Mac:
1. Launch System Preferences and go to the iCloud system preference.
2. Make sure you are signed in to your iCloud account and that the Find My Mac option is se-
lected.
3. Quit System Preferences when done.
Locate devices with Find My iPhone
If your device has been lost or stolen, you may be able to find it, thanks to iCloud. As long as the
device is switched on and connected to the Internet (your Mac must have Wi-Fi turned on) and Find
My iPhone/iPad/iPod/Mac has been set up on the device, you should be able to locate it using either
the iCloud website ( www.icloud.com ) or the free Find My iPhone app on another device. In either
case, you log in via your Apple ID or iCloud account.
From iCloud.com:
1. Click Find My iPhone.
2. Click the Devices button at the top of the window, then select a device from the Devices pop-
over that appears. Or click a green bubble that appears on the map to see what device it is;
nearby devices display here until you select a device in the Devices pop-over.
3. If you select a device from the Devices pop-over, controls for that device appear at the upper
right of the window, as Figure 6-7 shows. To see these controls for a device that you select
on the map, click the i button next to the device's name.
