In-Depth Information
• It can help you find where a friend is, if that person is using the free Find My Friends app
and has consented to you tracking his or her location.
• It helps map and navigation apps show you where you are and route you to your desired loc-
ation.
• It tags your photos with the location so you can remember just where you took them later.
• It lets you append location information to social networking services such as when you want
to let people know where that great restaurant you just visited is.
It's worth noting that Location Services uses a lot of battery power, so when it's used extensively,
such as for navigation, you should keep your device connected to a power source if at all possible.
When you set up your iOS device, you were asked whether you wanted Location Services enabled.
But you can always turn it off via the Settings app, a well as manage which apps have access to your
location information:
1. Launch the Settings app, and tap the Privacy label to open the Privacy pane.
2. Tap Location Services.
3. Set the Location Services switch to On (as shown in Figure 6-6).
4. Scroll through the list of apps that can access Location Services and set the switches to On
or Off according to your preference.
