Skype on a Mac
To further enhance your Skype experience, you can connect all your telephony devices — land-
line, Skype, and iPhone — to one device to control all incoming and outgoing calls. My favorite collec-
tion is the Plantronics Calisto Series . Offering traditional handsets, Bluetooth headsets, and speak-
erphones, these devices connect via Bluetooth to an iPhone, via USB to a computer, and via a stand-
ard phone line to a handset to provide complete control of all your telephony options. Whether you
receive a call via Skype, your iPhone, or standard phone line, the call comes to the Calisto when it is
turned on and in range, so you can pick it up from your Calisto handset, headset, or speakerphone as
desired.
The Calisto devices also let you make outgoing calls through any of your telephony service —
landline, Skype, or iPhone — and use common phone features such as speed dial and speakerphone.
The Calisto handset and speakerphone also can show the caller ID on their LED screen, again regard-
less of the source of the call.
A cheaper alternative to Calisto, although not quite as feature-packed, is a Bluetooth headset that
connects to your computer or your iOS device for receiving and making calls. You probably already
have one for your iPhone for use in your car. As an added bonus, you can use Siri when the Bluetooth
headset is connected to your iPhone so you can make calls with voice commands.
Get Local with Location Services
Using either GPS data or information from Wi-Fi hotspots, the Location Services capability pin-
points the location of your iOS device or Mac. There are several benefits to knowing your location:
• It helps locate a missing iOS device using the Find My iPhone service.
