Access photos stored on your computer on an Apple TV
To access iPhoto albums or any other photos stored on your computer via your Apple TV, first be
sure you've signed into Home Sharing on both the computer and the Apple TV. In iTunes on your
computer:
1. Choose File > Home Sharing > Choose Photos to Share with Apple TV.
2. In the window that appears, select the Share Photos option, then choose the source from the
menu to its right. On a Mac, your options are iPhoto, Aperture (if you have this software in-
stalled), Choose Folder, and Pictures. In Windows, your options are Choose Folder and My
Pictures.
• If you choose iPhoto or Aperture, you get the options All Photos, Albums, Events, and
Faces (this will display everything in iPhoto or Aperture on your Apple TV) and Selected
Albums, Events, and Faces (this lets you choose what to share from a list that appears be-
low). No matter which you choose, there's also the option Include Videos to let you de-
cide whether to show just photos (deselect this option) or photos and videos (select this
option).
• If you choose Pictures or My Pictures, you also get two options for how much you want to
share — All Folders and Selected Folders — as well as the Include Videos option to con-
trol whether videos are played as well. If you have no subfolders, the Selected Folders op-
tion is grayed out. If you select Selected Folders, a list of subfolders appears that you can
then choose from (multiple selections are allowed). Think of each folder as an album; it's
a good idea to organize your photos into subfolders ahead of time, so you don't accident-
ally show photos you didn't intend to.
• If you choose Choose Folder, a settings sheet appears where you navigate to the folder on
your computer that contains the photos you want to show. You get the same options here
as you do when you choose Pictures or My Pictures.
1. Click Apply to permit the display of your photos on the Apple TV. Close the window.
2. On your Apple TV, open the Computers screen and choose the iTunes library for the com-
puter you are sharing your photos from. (Multiple computers can use the same Home Shar-
ing account.)
3. Select the Photos option. (You only see the Photos option if that computer is sharing pho-
tos.)
4. You'll see tiles for the available photos. Use the arrow buttons on the Apple TV control to
navigate to a specific photo, then press the Enter button (the center button) to display that
photo in full-screen view.
5. If you want the Apple TV to play back all the photos as a slideshow starting with the selected
photo, press the Play button ( ).
6. Press Menu to go back to the tiles to select a different photo.
7. To stop sharing these photos with the Apple TV, go to iTunes on your computer and choose
File > Home Sharing > Choose Photos to Share with Apple TV. In the window that appears,
deselect the Share Photos option, click Apply, and close the window.
