Stream Photos to a TV
Sending photos to the web or sharing them via e-mail is nowhere near as fun or personal as
showing them off to friends and family in the comfort of your own home. If you have pictures on your
iOS device or computer, you can simply hand the device to a friend or have them sit in front of your
computer and flick through the photos, but even that's not taking full advantage of the features of
iCloud and AirPlay. Adding an Apple TV to the mix makes things even better.
Just like the beautiful people in immaculate homes in the Apple advertisements, you too can
share photos on your TV screen using the magic of AirPlay. The same principle applies to streaming
photos as it does music and movies: You need a compatible device to send the media as well as a
compatible device to receive it. In most cases, the device sending the pictures will be an iPhone, iPad,
iPod Touch, or a computer and the receiver will be the Apple TV.
But you can access photos stored in your Photo Stream right from your Apple TV without having
to send it from another device. When connected to your iCloud account, your Apple TV can pull pho-
tos from the web and display them on your TV very easily. It can also access the photos stored on
your computer, too.
Display photos from an iOS device on an Apple TV
With your iOS device and Apple TV connected to the same network, you can quickly stream a
photo to your TV's screen in a matter of taps. Your Apple TV and the TV it is connected to need to be
switched on and you need to have photos in the Photos app on your iOS device.
1. Locate the photo you want to send in the Photos app on your iOS device.
2. Tap the photo to show it at full screen size and then tap the picture to display the toolbars at
the top and bottom of your iOS device's screen.
3. Tap the AirPlay button ( ) and choose your Apple TV from the list that appears.
4. The picture will appear on the TV connected to your Apple TV.
5. You can swipe across the image on your iOS device to show the next image in the current al-
bum on your Apple TV. Continue doing so to show more photos if you want.
Stream a slideshow of photos from an iOS device to an Apple
TV In the same way that you can send one photo to your Apple TV via AirPlay, you can send a
slideshow on your iOS device to an Apple TV. Slideshows offer a more attractive way to stream a set
of images. All you need to do is set the transition effect between images and set whether to play music
during the slideshow — then you're good to go. (You will, of course, need to have music stored on
your iOS device to play music during your slideshow.)
Unless you want your slideshow to be of every image on your iOS device (in the Camera Roll al-
bum) or in your Photo Stream (in the Photo Stream album), you should first create an album of the
images you want to show in your slideshow.
That's easy:
1. In the Photos app, open your Camera Roll or Photo Stream album, then tap Edit.
2. Now select each image you want to copy to a new album.
3. Tap the Save button and choose Save to New Album in the menu that appears.
