composition of a colony derived from two drones mated to the same queen. h e
middle panel shows workers from a single colony where the queen was
instrumentally inseminated with the sperm of six dif erent males, each with
dif erent visible mutant markers. h e workers of each subfamily are visibly
distinguishable. h e lower panel shows the workers that emerged as adults from
a single comb from eggs laid by the queen. Workers from all six subfamilies are
present in roughly equal proportions.
