Problem 10.3: Cantilever Wall
The wall shown has a height of 8 ft and a length of 10′-6″. The sill section has a height
of 5.33 ft. A 1′-8″ high by 5′-0″ wide opening is offset from the center of the wall as
shown in Fig. P10.3. The section above the opening does not comply with the allowable
aspect ratios and therefore will not be used. Gravity loads will be ignored.
Given: A 1000 lb lateral force is applied at the top of the wall and is distributed to each
pier in accordance with its respective length.
Find: Analyze the wall, using the cantilever method.
