VARIETIES FOR DIFFERENT TEMPERATURE REGIMES
For optimum utilization of land and land resources year round production
of vegetables is advocated. Growing of vegetables throughout the year,
promotes the household food and nutritional security of farm families
through increased intake of homegrown vegetables. Such models are help-
ful not only in meeting the nutritional needs but also to generate income
of the farmers by producing vegetables during the off seasons. Varieties
have been tuned in such a fashion to growth throughout the year by incor-
porating the genome, which enables them to grow in different temperature
regimes (Table 1.5).
