transferred to and respired by AMF when exposed to elevated tempera-
tures. These effects are to be studied in different ecosystems.
14.5 CONCLUSIONS
Despite a concerted effort on different aspects of AMF association, the
issues which mostly concerns present day agriculture such as drought and
disease tolerance and enhanced crop growth and yield are to be understood
well. The AMF diversity existing in the country need to be collected, iden-
tified, characterized and conserved for future use and the management of
indigenous AMF needs focus of their less understood aspects. There is
need to determine the basic characteristics, such as host-fungus specificity
interaction and competitiveness between AMF and, effectiveness of the
AMF under possible environmental stresses, well-watered, drought stress,
salinity, N and P deficiency conditions. Furthermore, role of AMF under
climate change situation needs to be studied in details for sustainable pro-
duction in such situations.
