mud. Spraying of insecticides (metasystox, dizinon, amichlorapid, etc.)
can take care of minor insect pests. Protection of fruits from birds and bats
are again serious problem, can be protected by nylon net cover.
6.3.6.8 WINDBREAKS
Climate change mitigation measures by growing/developing windbreaks
for litchi orchards are very common and essential measures for successful
commercial litchi production.
6.4 CONCLUSION
Litchi production system in sustainable manner in the present day context
clearly showed that the climatic issues are very much vital and influencing
the potential production and plantation too under this region. Considering
the importance of this fruit crop in the region, efforts are made to provide
technological support through research and promoting sustainable pro-
duction by proper scientific intervention and better technologies adoption
pertaining to climate change perspective. The strategic measures and tech-
nologies suggested with respect to adaptations to climate change for sus-
tainable production is not only a matter of changing current management
practices, changing varieties or changing cropping zones, but adaptation
to climate change, starts from building resilient systems under present
conditions. Current litchi production in this country and more particularly
in eastern region needs to be both environmentally and economically sus-
tainable and provide the basis for enhanced quantum of quality production
and livelihood security in the region wherever is grown.
