Perform calibrations before initial use, after repairs or other occurrences
that might affect the test results, at intervals not exceeding 1,000 test
specimens, or annually, whichever occurs first, for the following apparatus:
CALBRATION [2]
Balance —Evaluate in accordance with ASTM Specification D 4753.
Molds —Determine the volume as described in the next section.
Manual Rammer —Verify the free-fall distance, rammer mass,
rammer face, and guide sleeve requirements.
Mechanical Rammer —Calibrate and adjust the mechanical ram-
mer in accordance with ASTM Test Methods D 2168. In addition,
the clearance between the rammer and the inside surface of the
mold shall be verified.

COMPACTION
MOLD [2]
(1.1) This describes the procedure for determining the volume of a
compaction mold.
(1.2) The volume is determined by a water-filled method and
checked by a linear-measurement method.
(2) Apparatus
(2.1) In addition to the apparatus listed previously, the following
items are required:
(2.1.1) Vernier or Dial Caliper —having a measuring range of at least
0 to 6 in. (0 to 150 mm) and readable to at least 0.001 in. (0.02 mm).
