and 26 years old (senzamedia 1996). today, though, the fact that several social
centers have existed for a long time has made them very diverse in terms of gen-

was a marked gender imbalance among supporters, with males accounting for 67
percent of the total versus a 33 percent share of females (senzamedia 1996). but
recently, feminist and queer events, for example, the ones organized by the lady-
fest network, are regularly scheduled, making social centers much more mixed
places than before.
