People and procedures.
Observe the major pieces of supporting software. The operating system piece
includes the basic software such as DOS, Windows, or UNIX plus the network oper-
ating system. The database management system is the selected DBMS running the
database environment. The suite of application programs forms a significant part of
the software component.
People and Procedures
This group of components makes things happen in the database environment with
the aid of the underlying hardware infrastructure and the supporting software.
Standards are set through manual and automated procedures. Figure 2-5 shows
the people and procedures component of the database environment.
