feedstock crops and resources that improve system efficiencies and the wider
acceptance of such technologies. Responding to such public concerns and
demonstrating sustainable good practice in all aspects of raw material production,
processing and manufacturing will remain key to development of the sector and
maintenance of public confidence.
The issues that have been encountered in the development of the biofuel and
bioenergy sectors have shaped the development of policy thinking in the biobased
sector. The benefit in this case is that the issues are clearer now and, with associated
development of sustainable sourcing and through communication of environmen-
tal messaging, consumers should have greater confidence in what they are
purchasing and what their purchases should be delivering.
