Compostable logo EN13432.
The label covers services as well as products, so is not specifically aimed at
supporting biobased products, chemicals and materials; biobased products may
however be suited to meeting the objectives of the scheme and benefit from the
awareness-raising that such affiliation provides.
The award of the EU Ecolabel is an important part of the communications
message associated with promoting products. Compliance with standards can also
be recognised by the owning accreditation bodies, awarding permission to use
associated logos on approved materials. The compostable logo (Figure 8.3) is an
example of this, controlled in its use by compliance with standard EN 13432.
To be credible and provide the highest level of assurance, such labels need to
beĀ  trusted and ideally supported by third-party audit and accreditation. The
development of broader schemes such as the EU Ecolabel is an attempt to provide
an overarching scheme to halt the development of a plethora of individual schemes
