Detailed log sections (Figure 2.7) will be very useful in recording these kinds
of primary structures. Very important are observations and measurements that
can relate to the depositional environment, for example flow indicators, any
welding of the deposit indicating hot deposition, re-working and erosive bases
to beds, and so on. The nature of structures in volcanic units will be dealt
with in detail in Chapters 4 and 5, and further additional information on the
nature of sedimentary structures and how to record them is covered in detail in
(Tucker (2011) this topic series).
