Volcaniclastic sequences particularly lend themselves to graphic logging (for
example, Figure 2.7), but also lava sequences, layered igneous rocks (see
Chapter 8) and even igneous/metamorphic lithostratigraphic relationships can
all be recorded using some form of graphic log.
2.4 Primary Outcrop Structures
When considering an outcrop there are a variety of structures that can be
recorded by annotated sketches, measurements and notes. A number of primary,
late stage and secondary structures are likely to be present in any outcrop.
Here we consider primary outcrop structures before looking at late stage and
secondary structures.
