If you're a nature lover, then make sure to fit in a day trip to the Plitvice Lakes National
Park. This stunning UNESCO World Heritage Site is situated near the border of Bosnia and
Herzegovina and is almost 300 square kms in size. Well set up with amenities for visitors,
the park has a large number of lakes, around 20 in total, with the two biggest, Prošćansko
jezero and Kozjak being also the deepest. There are many hiking trails throughout the park,
some leading to spectacular waterfalls which connect the lakes. The most popular time to
visit the park is in the spring and summer, though autumn and winter can be incredibly beau-
tiful, especially if there is fresh snowfall.
