The city itself is an easy place in which to get your bearings.

main street, zooms south through the centre from the train station. The tradi-
tional commercial centre of the city lies around
Guanqian Jie
, halfway down
Renmin Lu, an area of cramped, animated streets thronged with small shops,
teahouses and restaurants. The best way to get around is by
bike
; there are many
bike rental places along Shiquan Jie and a couple on Renmin Lu, charging
¥15-25 for a day with a deposit of a few hundred yuan.
Accommodation
The main
hotel
area, and the heaviest concentration of gardens and historic
buildings, is in the south of the city, around Shiquan Jie. Out of season (Oct-
May), you should be able to get rooms in all the hotels listed below at a discount
of at least twenty percent if you ask.
