Knicks-knacks, jewellery and accessories
Shanghai does curios, accessories and knick-knacks much better than it does
antiques, with something of a craft renaissance going on. There is also some
very well-designed mass-market homeware and porcelain that's well worth
investigating.
The place to start looking is Taikang Lu Art Street . Notable stores here, in
addition to those listed below, include: the Tian Zi Fang Leather workshop at
no. 15, lane 210, which sells bags and belts; Cholon at 108, no. 3, which sells
Vietnamese homeware; Hari Rabu at House 6, which has a Shanghai take on
Indonesian curios; and Jooi Design at Studio 201 of the International Artist
Factory, which has some great cushion covers and embroidered evening bags.
Stores are marked on the Old French Concession map (pp.70-71), unless
where noted.
