La Malinche
Mystery surrounds La Malinche,
the indigenous woman who was
Cortés' mistress, translator, and
trusted negotiator. It is believed
that she was sold into slavery
after her father's death. Whether
she was a victim or an
opportunist is debated, but
Mexicans often view her as a
traitor to her people. She lived in
Coyoacán with Cortés' son.

painted many of his best known
oils. The smaller blue one was
Frida Kahlo's when she lived here
