Antropología
This internationally renowned
anthropology museum show-
cases, in a series of halls, original
artifacts from pre-
Hispanic Mexico
discovered at
archeological sites
throughout the
country. The
magnificent 180-ton
monolith of Tláloc,
God of Rain, stands
near the entrance. Inside, an
impressive central courtyard is
dominated by a modern, 36-ft (11-
m), intricately decorated pillar. It
symbolically represents the pre-
Hispanic past and the scientific
and technological future. It alone
supports a 275-ft (84-m) long
concrete canopy (see pp8-9) .
