Southport once stood here. The town was established in 1813 and at the time was
the greatest cotton town east of Memphis.
Miles and Directions
Start on the east side of the parking lot. You will see the en-
trance to the paved Reservation Road Trail. Just a few feet in
before the metal gate, turn left (north) onto the dirt Old First
Quarters Trail (a sign here shows the way).

Cross an impressive CCC bridge. Come to a Y. The CCC Pavil-
ion Trail is the right fork. Continue on the Old First Quarters
Trail on the left to the northeast. You will be walking alongside a
deep runoff or seasonal stream bed to the left. (
Option:
Take
the CCC Pavilion Trail to add 0.6 mile to the hike where it loops
back onto the Rockpile Trail).
