44 South Plateau Loop
An enjoyable walk around the summit of Monte Sano Mountain, the South Plateau
Loop is a 3.5-mile hike past a few intermittent streams with nice cascades when
they are flowing and rustic CCC shelters to rest at and take in the views. And
speaking of views, the highlight of the trip is O'Shaughnessy Point. The point is a
rock outcropping with wonderful views of the valley below, just a great place to
simply sit and enjoy your surroundings.
Start: Hikers' parking lot off of Nolen Drive
Distance: 3.5-mile loop
Hiking time: About 1.5 hours
Difficulty: Easy to moderate due to distance
Trail surface: Dirt footpath, some rock or gravel road
