trees, to name only a few. Depending on the season, you will see many wild-
flowers along the path and on top of the rocks surrounding it. Some of the flowers
you will see include jack-in-the-pulpit and verbena.
As you wind around to the north side of the mountain, the path drops down to
follow the banks of a beautiful, wide tupelo swamp. This is a prime area to view
wildlife, including white-tailed deer and wood ducks. It's not uncommon to see
box turtles lining up on logs sunning themselves, and in the evening you'll be
treated to a chorus of frog song.
The cave of the Cave Mountain Loop is located right alongside the trail. It's sad that graffiti “artists” were also
here.
The trail along the swamp is a dirt path and narrow, maybe 1 to 11⁄2 feet wide
in many spots. That's because it is wedged between the swamp and a massive rock
bluff. It is an impressive rock formation, with water seeping down its face after
