In-Depth Information
The hike is rated moderate due to some climbs, especially following the junc-
tion of the Azalea Cascade and Laurel Falls Trails, but don't let this stop you.
These are short climbs. The remainder of the hike is fairly easy over relatively
flat, but rocky, terrain.
A view of Lost Falls
The hike begins by using the orange-blazed Laurel Falls Trail, which is a Na-
tional Recreational Trail. This is a nice dirt and rock footpath through stands of
pines and hardwoods. The first waterfall, Lost Falls, is about 0.5 mile into the
hike. This makes it easy for those of you who don't want to hike the entire loop.
You can simply park and take a quick out-and-back to this waterfall. It is an im-
pressive 50-foot-or-so cascade tumbling down two tiers of rock. To get to the
falls, the orange trail splits to the east and south; a small carved rock on the
ground marks the short trail to the falls, which is also blazed in orange. Once you
visit the falls, you can either retrace your steps back to where you were or turn
right (west) and follow this side trail a short 50 feet back to the main trail.
