33 Quarry Trail
Once a major limestone-mining area, Ruffner Mountain is now one of the state's
premier nature centers. The Quarry Trail is the backbone of the center's hiking trail
system. This out-and-back will take you along the ridgeline of the mountain past
interesting trees and flowers, then to great views of the quarry itself.
Start: North side of Ruffner Mountain Nature Center parking lot under wooden
trailhead entrance
Distance: 2.7 miles out and back
Hiking time: About 1.5 hours
Difficulty: Easy to moderate with some short climbs
Trail surface: Dirt and rock
Best seasons: Winter-late spring
