23 Smith Mountain Loop
The Smith Mountain Loop trail is short in length but oh so satisfying as you
scamper up and around rock bluffs to the top of the mountain. There you are rewar-
ded with spectacular views of Lake Martin not only from the summit, but also from
atop a 80-foot restored fire tower—that is, if you have the energy to climb it.
Start: Smith Mountain trailhead on north side of parking lot
Distance: 0.9-mile loop
Hiking time: About 1.5 hours
Difficulty: Moderate up rocky hillsides and bluffs
